TO SAVE THE DYING WORLD FROM THE MAGIC-ABSORBING DONN, HE HAS TO FORGE AN UNLIKELY FRIENDSHIP WITH THE HOSTILE HALF DARK ELF QUEEN, KATE.
HOWEVER, THE DONN IS JUST A PAWN. KATE'S FATHER, THE BANISHED KING, IS THE TRUE THREAT.
ARTHUR MUST MASTER HIS GIFTS, BEFORE HE LOSES HIS HERITAGE, HIS NEW FRIENDS, AND THE ONLY PLACE THAT FELT LIKE HOME.”

Comparable titles upon torn paper showing wording and pictures, on top of a forest background. The pictures are book covers with an arrow and text per picture, describing why it’s a comp title.
The Comps are:
1 - Impossible creatures by Katherine Rundell — due to the magic animal world building.
2 - Sona and the Golden beasts by Rajani LaRocca — because of the mystery behind heritage.
3 - Nevermoor. The trials of Morrigan Crow — which is also a fast paced portal fantasy.

J.J.W. IS A BRITISH WRITER THAT MOVED TO KENTUCKY, USA, IN 202I. MOVING ACROSS THE POND GAVE HIM A PRETTY DECENT UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT IT'S LIKE TO LIVE BETWEEN WORLDS (YES, HE IS CALLING KENTUCKY 'ANOTHER WORLD). HIS SHORT STORY, NYSSA, RECENTLY RECEIVED AN HONORABLE MENTION IN THE 2026 ECHOES OF APPALACHIA CREATIVE WRITING CONTEST.
IN THE UK, HE WORKED AS A PROFESSIONAL COMMERCIAL COPYWRITER, LIVE-READ SCRIPT WRITER, AND NEWS WRITER FOR A NATIONAL IN-STORE MEDIA PRODUCTION HOUSE, WHERE ONE OF HIS COMMERCIALS WON BEST USE OF HUMOUR AT THE 2008 VOX AWARDS. HE ALSO HOSTS AN EPISTEMOLOGICAL SCRIPTED DEBUNKING SHOW WITH OVER
47,000 SUBSCRIBERS.”
