These responses make it clear that anti-abortion leaders only support some kinds of families: families created by young, largely white, heterosexual couples without IVF. reproaction.org/the-trump-al... 4/8

a tweet from Lizzie Marbach in response to AOC’s egg retrieval announcement that says, “This is wicked. Here is a woman who rejected God’s design, put off marriage and children during her 20s and 30s, and now thinks she can just override reality by freezing her eggs. This is just like a gay couple who goes against nature to acquire children.”]

This comes as some anti-abortion leaders call to ban IVF in favor of their own, unproven fertility theory known as “restorative reproductive medicine.” reproaction.org/opposition-i... 5/8

a tweet from Lila Rose in response to AOC’s egg retrieval announcement that says, “It’s not “badass.” It puts you and your future babies at higher risk. It necessitates IVF, which is extremely dangerous for children and has led to millions of babies being destroyed or frozen. Stop normalizing egg freezing. Get married and be open to new life.”]

One anti-abortion leader took it even further. Katy Faust, founder of the anti-abortion, anti-IVF group Them Before Us, used AOC’s story to claim that “conservatives should not be the ‘pro-family’ party.” 6/8

a tweet from Katy Faust in response to AOC’s egg retrieval announcement that says, “Conservatives should not be the "pro-family" party. We must be the PRO-CHILD party. "Family" has been co-opted to mean whatever an adult wants it to mean. Missing a mother, missing a father, two houses, three parents, anonymous donors, purchasing children, etc. We must defend children's right to life, right to their mother and father, and right to be born free- not bought and sold. Promoting IVF, egg freezing, sperm "donation," surrogacy, gay marriage, easy divorce all infringe on those fundamental rights. You can *permit* adults to make decisions for their own relationships or their own bodies. But as a party the GOP should only *promote* the one form of family that does not violate child rights.”]
