The Keel-billed Toucan with achiote #AvianAugust #AvianAugust2026

A painting of a toucan facing the left while surrounded by leaves and flowers. The toucan is overall black with a bright yellow patch of feathers that extends from the base of the beak, back behind the eye, and down to the chest. The underfluffies are bright red. The brightly colored beak is magenta at the tip with blue and green on the lower mandible, and just lime green on the upper mandible. A small oval of orange is on the upper mandible near the base where the two parts of the beak meet. The pink, star-shaped flowers are in clusters on green stems with some magenta buds mixed in. The dark green leaves are wavy and ovate with noticeable veining. There is a 5 inch diameter thin gold ring behind the bird and flowers. The background is off—white. Next to the painting is a smaller bookmark with the toucan perched on a branch. The belly is facing you, but the head turned to the left. Below the bird is “keel-billed toucan” in ultramarine blue.
