so desperate to get myself to do...anything, that i tried getting SAI2 to work again. good news: the 32-bit version works correctly! bad news: it's the 32-bit version so anything past a few layers at the resolution i work at hits the RAM ceiling instantly. fuck (related: 2025 work i never finished)

I had this same issue like half a decade ago, and I forget what I wound up doing to fix it, but I think I combined some of the 32bit files with a cracked 64 bit version (even though I own a legitimate license) and it worked. I've been keeping that folder with every OS reinstall since.

tried fucking around in 32-bit sai2 for a few minutes, hitting the same load of brain shit as ever. if anything it feels worse than krita to me now (this isn't a "krita feels bad" thing, it's a "i got krita past where i was with SAI" thing). no hope. flushing myself down a huge toilet post-haste

You working at 600dpi? I've never gone anove 400dpi. I also use the 64bit version. Is your machine super old?
