First, it frames critiques (including mine) as only being "Technologies sold as 'AI' don't work as advertised." They don't, but that has never been the whole critique, which would be obvious if people actually read: Look at the (2021) Stochastic Parrots paper: dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/... >>

It's true that this is where the phrase stochastic parrots is introduced, in the context of one harm of making language models larger and larger: The ability to cheaply (to the user, not the world) produce plausible looking text leads to cases where people might mistake synthetic text as authentic>>
