She argues that modern technology companies operate like an oligarchy, driven by data and profit. Cadwalladr calls this new system a “broligarchy,” where tech elites hold immense influence similar to authoritarian regimes. She explains that data has become the foundation of power, comparing today’s surveillance-based business models to the control once seen in East Germany.
