The novels of A.S.Byatt are full of examples of small communities being revolutionarily enriched by new universities and ideas and freedoms growing up in the late 19th century through to the mid 20th century. Fabians a Shakers and more. Great stuff!

The university makes a meaningful difference—which also means Lethbridge is also a GREAT example of how opening the veins to the best strains of a liberal higher education will strengthen a community through providing a basis for an actually naturally occurring diversification!
