Chair Cassidy, Ranking Member Sanders Invite Sec. Kennedy to Future Hearing on HHS Reorganization

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senators Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, and Bernie Sanders (I-VT), ranking member of the HELP Committee, sent a letter to Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., inviting him to participate in a HELP Committee hearing on the reorganization of HHS.

We write to invite you to testify on April 10, 2025, before the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions at a hearing titled “An Update on the Restructuring of the Department of Health and Human Services.” The hearing will discuss your proposed reorganization of the Department of Health and Human Services. The hearing will begin at 10:00AM EDT in room 430 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building.

We are following up on the commitment you made during the confirmation process that as Secretary you would come before the HELP Committee on a quarterly basis, upon request of the Chair. Please submit a written statement of any length prior to the hearing for inclusion in the hearing record. Committee rules require witnesses to submit testimony at least 48 hours in advance of the hearing. At the hearing, you will be given five minutes to summarize your written testimony. Each Senator will then have five minutes to ask questions.

Hearing from all corners of HHS this morning about a total bloodletting — firings of scientists, analysts and many more as delayed RIFs take effect. Many folks didn’t see early AM email and showed up, only to be turned away when badges didn’t work. Was sent this photo of long lines at one HHS site.

Maybe RFK will testify. Maybe not. But the MAGA Senate GOP will protect him from any accountability. They’ll applaud him, even. This is performative BS on the part of Cassidy, as useless as his insipid Bible quotes. Thanks to Cassidy, our health care system and research will be demolished.

Bill Cassidy voted to confirm him, after saying his long and thoughtful conversations with RFK reassured him. IOW, JD Vance called him and told him that he would be primaried if he didn’t bend the knee. Bill Cassidy owns this—ALL of it, including the anti-vax policies—100%.
