That is bullshit logic, and EXACTLY what I am criticizing here. Driving your car kills people. Your emissions poison the atmosphere. Does that mean you are intentionally killing the planet just because you drive a car? By your logic, if you take a bus, you are still a planet murderer. Stupid shit.

Yes, to some extent. And since perfection is impossible, we all make trade offs of how much destruction of the environment and exploitation of poorer people is OK for each of us. No point lying to ourselves.

I own a car, eat meat, and have electronic devices made in Chinese factories under terrible conditions. If extinction of the southern residents is a fair trade for a pipeline to you, then at least you should know. Pretty sure that was her main point. At least what I got from it.

Agreed. The truth is bad enough. If selling oil makes orcas go extinct, that would be fucking terrible. You don't need to sell it any more than that. Framing it as killing the whales is the whole point is not being truthful about the reality of the situation. I do not find hyperbole compelling.
