I think I’d pick the 1970s. Object orientation was fringe but right on the cusp of getting really cool. Also of course, Unix, microprocessors, and databases had a lot of activity!   Anyone with a solid education from that era would pick up modern CS concepts easily…just cram a few papers.

As someone who was around in the '70s: you frequently had to cram your code and data (and often, the OS) into a tiny address space. Like 64K. Not fun. Code overlays crash a lot. I was so happy to get 32 bit pointers in the 80s!

One thing about the old '70s 8-bit micros: Everything about them - registers on the CPU chip, PCB layout, OS implementation, app software, etc. - fits in one human brain. It may take a while, but you can understand the entire system. Generally not the case with larger CPUs.
