In Pittsburgh, the Democratic primary is the "real" election. If you vote by mail, your ballot is coming soon! The primary is 5/20. We're flooded with unpleasant mailers, mainly by PACs supporting Corey O'Connor. They're using racist tropes & telling weirdly easily disproved lies. 1/5

On the left, a mailer that claims the mayor isn't getting blight demolitions done. It has a photo of two houses, and one of them is a wreck. On the right is a more recent photo of the same place. The blighted house is gone, and was demolished in 2023.

It's easy to attack the incumbent. I saw someone complain that if the Mayor had RESURFACED ALL THE STREETS with better materials, we won't have potholes. 🤷‍♂️ O'Connor served on City Council while snow plow fleets aged & roads weren't magically resurfaced, & says that he can do the job better. 2/5

I particularly like the O'Connor campaign promise to "make housing more affordable." How is he going to do that? He never explains it and he also doesn't support Gainey's proposal for inclusionary zoning.

I don't see any specifics from O'Connor, just platitudes. Gainey has accomplished a lot: - More affordable housing - Crime is down - The Office of Community Health and Safety for co-response to mental health non-violent situations, and post-overdose support to help people get into treatment 3/5
