I've been working on #6thDawn for over 3 years, as my take on 5e. Last week, the wizard unleashed it's awesome power. Here are some of its new and revised features! #DnD #TTRPG #TTRPGRising www.patreon.com/posts/6th-da...

Arcane Tradition

When you reach 2nd level, you choose an arcane tradition, shaping your practice of magic through one of eight schools: , only Evocation is detailed at the end of the class description.

Your choice grants you features at 2nd level and again at 6th, 10th, 14th, and 18th level.
Favoured School

An arcane tradition has one or more favoured schools of magic including Abjuration, Conjuration, Divination, Enchantment, Evocation, Illusion, Necromancy, and Transmutation. If a tradition has multiple schools you must pick one.

When you prepare spells after completing a long rest, you may prepare an additional two spells, provided that they belong to your favoured school.

The number of additional spells you may prepare increase to 4 at 3rd level, 6 at 5th level, 8 at 7th level, and 10 at 9th level.

Familiar

You imbue your magical essence into a magical creature known as a familiar. This familiar typically takes the form of a Tiny animal. Choose an Lesser Familiar from the options in the Familiar section, your Familiar has the associated statistics. After a long rest, or during a short by expending a 1st-rank spell slot or higher, you can change your familiar's form to another.

Your familiar acts independently of you, but it always obeys your commands. In combat, shares your initiative and you can act interchangeably.

Arcane Research

When you've reached 11th level, you've studied the arcane arts enough that you do not need to rely exclusively on pre-existing spell formulas to add to your magical repetoire. You can either attempt to discover a pre-existing spell, or make one of your own.

This is a process that takes many days or weeks of work, and an amount of materials depending on if you are discovering or creating spells and the rank of the spell in question.

Where a work day is considered 8 hours. If you and your party are travelling overland without making a forced march, travel time is typically broken up into 8 hours of travel, 8 hours for a long rest, with the remaining 8 hours for other activities, such as this. A work day cannot be broken up further.

After each work week, you must make an Intelligence (Arcana) check, with a DC determined by the process. On a failed check, that week's worth of work does not count to the total. Once you have made enough progress, the spell is added to your spell book.
Spell Discovery

Instead of relying on procuring scrolls or another wizard's spellbook, you can attempt to gain spells the same way you do when you increase in level.

Discovering a spell takes a week and 100 gp worth of materials (which can be taken directly out of your gold, like with scrolls) for each rank of the spell in question.

Wrest Magic

As a reaction to a creature you can see within 60 feet of you casting a spell of 1st-rank or higher to attempt to wrest the spell from their grip. If a creature is concentrating on a spell within the same range, you can instead use your action to wrest the concentrated spell.

Make an ability check using your spellcasting ability opposed by a check made with their spellcasting ability. On a success, you claim the spell as if you have cast it, or if you rested concentration, you now have control over the spell as if you were concentrating on it. If you used your reaction, you can choose if you wish to concentrate on the spell or not if it is an option.

Upon successfully wresting a spell from another creature, you cannot use this feature until you finish a long rest or expend a spell slot of a rank equal to or higher than a new spell you wish to rest.
