Small children are asking why for the consequences ("So That"), not the origins ("How did we get here"). "Why does it rain?" --> "So the flowers can grow" "Why is it Saturday?" --> "So we can get a day to do fun things together" Granted, this worked with my kids, but your mileage may vary.
