But the LLM is not a cogniser, so that's not a problem here. My hypersyntax is also a mathematical object, though obviously not mapped with rules, and it is strictly a feature of a corpus, not of a language. It is not used by humans, but it is an emergent phenomenon of the construction of a corpus.

Why is the locus of emergence crucial? Well, instrumentalist functionalists assume that it is here. Most of them believe that model training using gradient descent is a process of weak emergence, creating a cogniser. Some of them believe it is a process of strong emergence, creating a consciousness.

Their belief in emergence during gradient descent is so strong, so self-evident to them, that they assume everyone else must believe in it as well. Thus, they almost invariably imagine their opponents to be a secret dualist or a Searleian causal reductionist.
