Sunday Sargent. John Singer Sargent. El Jaleo (Ruckus). 1882. Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. Boston, Massachusetts. A visit to Boston is not complete without a stop at Gardner’s palazzo-style museum. #art #painting #arthistory #Americanimpressionism

El Jaleo. (The Ruckus). John Singer Sargent. 1882. Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. Boston, Massachusetts.
Sargent’s work of this Spanish dance was influenced by his trips to Spain and Northern Africa. He uses dramatic lighting effects in the painting and contrasting black and white for the flamenco dancer’s attire. It’s his most theatrical work.
The painting caught the attention of heiress Isabella Stewart Gardner in 1888 and today resides in the cloister gallery of her museum.

It's one of my favorite museums. I love that it's built around a beautiful courtyard

One of my favorite museums. And the Museum of Fine Arts is right around the corner.
