“A woman’s hands were always supposed to be busy - only a man’s hands were entitled to be carefree” (54).
“Tasks were her words” (55). This section made me smile…ruefully:
“They were always tense when hosting guests because they knew this was a competition of sorts…
Everything was discussed & each details was subjected to criticism because homes were the sole form of self-expression” (56).
