Roberta Flack elevated everything she touched. Her first album alone contains what I’d consider the definitive versions of classics by Leonard Cohen, Les McCann and Ewan MacColl. believe it or not i found pristine vinyl of this album at a fairly reputable indie record store, in a box of "assorted funk/r&b" for a couple dollars. this album is one of my Desert Island Discs - every song on it is glorious.

I am SURE it was this review that sent me to this record, and man, it is just astonishing from start to finish. "First Time Ever..." remains one of those songs you listen to and only at the end realize you've held your breath for 5+ minutes.
