Vibrant Rida ✨ (closed commissions) @vibrantrida.bsky.social · 05/02/2025i think retro style horror games need to embrace the batshit insanity that was bullshit control schemes of old, it adds not just immersion but also adds a feeling of helplessness as you hammer away at the archaic controls to save yourself from danger 182869
shannondraws.bsky.social @shannondraws.bsky.social · 05/02/2025Omg, now that horrific. The old tank controls. "Why can't I stop walking back into the waiting arms of the zombies, wahhh!" No, that's just too mean. 000
Quella Fowltreader 🏳️⚧️ @quellathequail.bsky.social · 05/02/2025as much as I love the ps1, i am legally obligated to say if you implement tank controls in a modern game, we gotta fight in the denny's parking lot at 3am, that is the law. 010
Jam Jetpack @jamjetpack.bsky.social · 05/02/2025The combat controls being clunky is fine, it's more annoying when just doing general traversing or backtracking. It isn't challenging or scary, just frustrating. 030
russypt @russypt.bsky.social · 05/02/2025hard to fear becoming a jill sandwich with lock on aim and backflips 020
Talos111 @talos111.bsky.social · 05/02/2025I feel like this can go two ways, with frustrating controls taking away from the horror rather than adding to it. It should feel frustrating because of stuff *in* the game, not the game itself, an in universe reason for things to be clunky. 030
@VSoz @vsoz.bsky.social · 05/02/2025A little bit of jank goes a long way. I do feel like Silent Hill 2 Remake's interpretation of the combat takes away all matter of horror tension when my boy James can just dodge things off like he is in Kingdom Heartsmedia.tenor.coma man is wearing a leather jacket and a blue shirt and looking at the camera .ALT: a man is wearing a leather jacket and a blue shirt and looking at the camera . 000
bunyuah @bunyuah.bsky.social · 05/02/2025making in purpose some type of input delay if you spam any sort of weapon, evil af 000
Bobert @legatesprinkles.bsky.social · 05/02/2025Fumbling with controls gives terror. When I played Half Life Alyx, while not the same with bullshit controls; fumbling with the controls to realize my mag was empty, eject the mag, reach behind me to load a new one, while 2-3 zombies were shambling towards me was a rush 170
Lemon Sama @lemonsama.bsky.social · 05/02/2025Not stupid but not actually that great, incorporating both control schemes is probably better, but don't be mad if the majority play it with modern aesthetics. Nostalgia goggles tend to blind people beyond economic means. 010
Keladinus @melanc.bsky.social · 05/02/2025The first person to become the Getting Over It of horror games will win a BAFTA 000
MetalSuccAttack @metalsucc.bsky.social · 05/02/2025dusk isnt necessarily a horror game but the controls are nice and even with the freedom of movement you have times where it can still be atmospheric and scary 000
Red Sutter @redsutter.bsky.social · 05/02/2025Can’t say having my characters have turn in place like some kind of RC car ever made me feel scared, honestly 010
AzaChattan @azachattan.bsky.social · 21/02/2025I don’t agree, but I can’t say you’re wrong either. I’d like an option for it, I think 000
