imagine how much more appealing Bluesky could be to people all over the world if it could fix this single problem

Inspired by another recent post on ATProto I signed up for bsky, but all I see is endless American politics. I relentlessly click "less like this" but it doesn't seem to budge. Is this just what the platform is like? Being constantly barraged by the same predictable takes on today's bizarre overseas controversy is not very conducive to mental peace...

To solve this single problem I think Bluesky needs to change the Discover algorithm drastically. From my understanding of previous discussions it is based on a pretrained content embedding model, clustering and sampling from those clusters. This is a mix of ML and heuristics. Making changes in...

... a system to achieve a goal is hard. You add a new rule and another problem pops elsewhere. I think you want to be either 100% heuristic based or 100% end-to-end ML optimized. The in between state is painful. Another practical setup is ML (ranking) on top of heuristics (candidate retrieval).
