I was raped 13 years ago and I still carry the wound with me daily. It was nowhere near as bad as what happened to Jane Doe at Cornell and I’m still struggling to work through it. I cannot even imagine the pain this woman is living with nor the incredible strength to confront her rapists.

I still see his stupid fucking face in my mind’s eye. I still remember the feeling. I remember the smell of the room. I remember the feel of the couch I was on. In some ways I’m lucky I remember so much because it helps me heal through therapy. Having no/a blurry memory sounds like a nightmare.

I’m not really sure what my point in writing this is. Every time a high profile case like this emerges, survivors everywhere have to relive the worst moments of our lives. I have so much empathy for everyone dealing with this avalanche of emotions. Sexual violence is simply not taken seriously.
