this is exactly why any "dont talk politics" talk is nonsense. its simply a way to avoid having hard conversations. we prioritize immediate comfortability with our peers over long-term comfortability with our positions/values (which may not have anything to do with the people we see daily)

We’re “polarized” in the same way the family Thanksgiving table is “polarized.” It’s a comfortable way to avoid talking about a deeply uncomfortable reality because hard family conversations about the relatives are hard.
