This is a fantastic example of what I mean: -To someone with no preconceived notions whatsoever, this is a Chesterton's Fence - using 70yo tech is so surprising there must be a reason -A specialist knows what that reason is -DOGErs know just enough to believe that newer tech is simply always better

Connecting threads so I can find them later - the toxic generalist is often a Powerpoint ronin who does not even begin to suspect that there is a degree of complexity to the situation they are blundering into, and believes that "simply" following the List Of Best Practices works in every context.

This specifically is a huge pet peeve of mine, of the "everyone is stupid except me" variety. Agile is over 20 years old. Some companies are in double-digit years of their Agile transformation. If it were as simple as "read the manifesto and then Do That" someone would've already made it work.

old enough to remember software had to be tested & stabilized before it was widely deployed. and there were tape backup & redundant systems
