More moths I forgot to pelt you with: 10. Big pink chonk season is upon us! Elephant hawkmoth caterpillars eat the willowherbs & bedstraws I've encouraged in the moth garden, & adults drink nectar from the wild honeysuckle. Want big pink chonks? Got some outdoor space? Grow weeds...

A magnificently aerodynamic, sleek, triangular shaped elephant hawkmoth. It has pink and olive green colouration on its wings and fluffy body, and thin white legs and antennas. It may or may not make tiny aeroplane noises when it flies. I would. If I was a hawkmoth I'd be yelling 'nee-yoom vroom brr zoo-oo-oom' as I zipped about the place.

Side view of the big pink hawkmoth on my fingertip. From this angle you can make out how it's wirey antennas have short comb-like teeth and tuck under its wings. It's thin white legs also have a spur on some of the segments. A+ moth buddy, just delightful.

This picture serves to raise the question: why do people say 'big puppy dog eyes', instead of 'big hawkmoth eyes'? This moth has friggin adorable big round eyes. 11 out of 10, better than any dog, never have to clean up its poop, would recommend.

…Or write to ur local councillors about the importance of wildflower areas & verges & no-mow times. A couple of years ago we were asked to vote on what to do with an unused patch in our ward. The winning idea was a wildflower area with short accessible trail! I'm lucky enuf to have the backyard…

A wildflower meadow area with the following plants in it: knapweed, buttercup, marguerites (giant daisies), yellow rattle, sheep sorrel, ladies bedstraw and at least one other bedstraw, toadflax, various vetches, medick, burnetts, red clover, ribwort plantain, dandelion, hawkbit, a bunch of different long grasses, and some more small plants I either forgo or haven't identified yet.

…in which I've carefully encouraged weeds that are foodplants for moths like these: -Elephant hawkmoth -Heart & dart -Small emerald Some blew in, some I collected seeds from weedy verges or the old cem. My sister's fam got me some wildflower turf offcuts & alot of cool things spread out from that…

Another view of the magnificent jet plane-shaped elephant hawkmoth from upthread. It's being photobombed by a delightfully fuzzy heart and dart moth, which is a much smaller wedge-shaped moth with warm brown patterns like a nice woolly jumper. Both great moth pals, full marks no notes.

A minty small emerald moth, with wide wings that are a delicate mint green colour with fine white horizontal lines. Imagine the taste of peppermint ice-cream got wings. That's this moth. Amazing little moth pal, perfection.
