? Herzl was a journalist who was motivated to create modern Zionism by antisemitism in his native Vienna and in France during the Dreyfus Affair: if Jews couldnt be safe in 3rd Republic France, the most enlightened country in the history of the world to that point, they couldn’t be safe anywhere.
