But the domme also needs to trust that the submissive is going to communicate her limits and her needs. The domme needs to trust that the submissive knows her limits and will call colors if needed. The domme needs to trust that the submissive is an active participant in the whole process.

D/S dynamics aren't something that the domme does to the sub. It's a collaboration between two (or more) equally-participating agents. And it's so, so important that the collaboration is really two ways. If I already can't trust myself, how am I going to trust someone who won't call red?
