I wouldn't necessarily assume that it was a deliberate decision. Likely it was just the gravity of Redmond's 10 billion or whatever investment into OpenAI compelling people who don't give a shit one way or the other to drum up GPT usage wherever it could be found.

But think about the behaviors encouraged and discouraged by hanging your "try writing with AI" button front-and-center for both posts and replies. A certain kind of person who simply wants to see Content appear under their name can now have that happen with the press of a button.

This experience is Better™ in an extremely narrow, task-oriented way, which is that it removed the friction of getting a post out. Time-to-hot-take was reduced, pain point checked off, we can now all break for beers. Of course, frictionless writing created a shit environment for reading.
